GreenChoice is a tech startup founded in early 2017. Its mission is to help consumers easily attain a healthy, ethical, and sustainable lifestyle. GreenChoice gives food products GreenScores which considers each product’s: Freshness, Nutrition, Harmful Substances, Animal Welfare, Corporate Sustainability, and Company Transparency. These scores are built around the company’s deep analytical understanding of well-accepted, peer-reviewed scientific and environmental knowledge.
GreenChoice aims to help consumers look past the manipulative marketing and advertising of a product and better understand product labels. GreenChoice is currently developing a mobile app to achieve this goal, the app will be able to scan barcodes of products in grocery stores to determine which product to score. It will then display all information the consumer decides is important by the use of filters. Once the app has scored the product, many alternative healthier or sustainable options may also be presented to the user.
During my time there, I took on many roles. I started off as a research analyst, gathering data and analyzing different type of eggs and chicken farms from all nearby supermarkets. I also took on tasks that were more specific to marketing, for example designing the company website, creating flyers, and conducting marketing research on potential clients and customers.
